Prof. Alessandro Comunian
Università degli Studi di Milano, Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra “A. Desio” alessandro.comunian at unimi.it
Short bio
Alessandro Comunian holds a MSc in Physics (2002) from the University of Milan (Italy) and a PhD in Stochastic Hydrogeology (2011) from the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). After a Post-Doc at the UNSW Sydney (Australia), he rejoined the University of Milan, where he is Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences “A.Desio” since 2023.
His research interests include applications of geostatistics and inverse problems to groundwater hydrology, reservoir modelling, exploration geophysics, ocean, and atmospheric sciences. He has authored more than 36 indexed publications and he is member of the editorial board of Computers & Geosciences since 2017.

Prof. Romina Gaburro
University of Limerick, Department of Mathematics and Statistics romina.gaburro at ul.ie
Short bio
Romina Gaburro is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Limerick (UL). She obtained an MSc (Italian Laura) in Mathematics from the Università degli Studi di Trieste (1999), Italy and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK (2004). She held a Research Fellow position at the Università degli Studi di Trieste, followed by a Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship at UL (2004-2008). Her research focuses on inverse problems for partial differential equations and has been funded by the Research Ireland. Dr Gaburro serves on the committee of the Irish Mathematical Society (IMS), where she is also Chair of the Irish Committee for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Mathematics (ICEDIM) since 2022. She is also Vice-Chair of the Royal Irish Academy Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences Committee for the term 2022-2026. Dr Gaburro is also the country coordinator for Ireland in the European Women in Mathematics (EWM) organisation and the Irish ambassador for the International Mathematical Union (IMU) Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM).

Prof. Mauro Giudici
Università degli Studi di Milano, Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra “A. Desio” mauro.giudici at unimi.it
Short bio
Mauro Giudici earned a Laurea in Physics (1987) , from Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy). He is now a Professor at the Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra “A. Desio”, at the same University. His work in mathematical modelling, inverse problems, groundwater hydrology, geophysical exploration, and atmospheric physics has resulted in about 100 indexed publications and many presentations at international conferences, where he sometimes served as the organizer of sessions or chairperson. His teaching activity is very relevant at different levels (BS, MS, and PhD): he has responsible for course units and advisor of more than 100 students. He is a member of several scientific associations (EGU, EAGE, AGU, IAMG, IAHS, IAH, IPIA, AISAM, SII-IHS, SSSA, SIF, and ISA). He was awarded as outstanding editor of Hydrology and Earth System Sciences in 2015 and served as a reviewer for hundreds of papers submitted to the most important international scientific journals of hydrology and geophysics and for journals in applied mathematics. He serves as an evaluator for several national and international funding agencies and institutions.

Prof. Luca Rondi
Università degli Studi di Pavia, Dipartimento di Matematica “F. Casorati” luca.rondi at unipv.it
Short bio
Luca Rondi obtained the Degree in Mathematics at the University of Trieste in 1996 and the Ph.D in Mathematics at SISSA, Trieste, in 1999. He held postdoc poitions at the University of Linz, Austria, in 1999/2000, and at the University of Minnesota, USA, in 2000/2001. He worked at the Universtiy of Trieste, first as Ricercatore (2001-2012) and then as Associate Professor (2012-2018). From 2018 he served as Associate Professor at the University of Milano. From 2021 he is Associate Professor at the University of Pavia.
He is Member of the Editorial Board of the journal “Communications on Analysis and Computation” since its inception in 2023. His research focuses on the analysis of inverse problems for PDE’s (uniqueness, stability and variational methods of reconstruction), on imaging and on the Calculus of Variations.
